Episode 2: Hamlet’s Character

July 17th, 2008 by Dr. Melissa

In this episode, Dr. Melissa talks about Hamlet’s infamous melancholy and hesitation as we examine the soliloquys in Hamlet, including the famous “to be or not to be” speech (which, as it turns out, might not be as much of a soliloquy as we might have thought!).  Filth, flesh, and fun combine in this episode that features cameos by Mr. Spock and Sigmund Freud.

Episode 1 show notes

Join me, Dr. Melissa, as I discuss the ghost of Hamlet’s father.  In this episode you’ll learn about how the ghost’s first appearance makes Hamlet a lot like a modern horror movie; how the ghost resembles a zombie; and the call to vengeance the ghost gives to Hamlet - the call that initiates Hamlet’s downward spiral into madness and death.

Special thanks to the incredibly gifted Robyn Dell’Unto for permission to use her song “Ghost” (your yummy treat for being good and listening to all of Episode 1).

Music and sound clip credits after the jump.
